Côte Bonneville DuBrul Vineyard
Tasting Notes:
2004 Côte Bonneville DuBrul Vineyard
The 2004 Côte Bonneville represents the best expression of our DuBrul Vineyard, resulting from the unique events which shaped that vintage year. In January 2004, an arctic blast struck Washington State, severely damaging many vines. Our vineyard was spared. Like many growers, we opened our vineyard to one-time buyers, so they would have fruit from that vintage. We reduced our own crush in the process.
The ’04 Côte is estate grown Cabernet Sauvigon (63%) and Merlot (37%). The deep garnet color and exuberant aromatics lead to sweet plum, blackberry, bright cherry and cassis flavors which unfold into a long lingering finish. This wine pairs well with Sushi, King Salmon, Moroccan Lamb Kabobs or Steak Diane, followed by a Chocolate-Cherry Truffle Tart.
The wine was vinified in small lots, aged 24 months in new French oak barrels, then bottled, unfined and unfiltered, on August 29, 2006, Alcohol measured 14.2%, pH was 3.48, titrable acidity was 0.61, Actually 451 cases were produced.

The 2005 Côte Bonneville will be released in April, 2009. It has everything that the 2004 has and more. It is a more structured effort and will benefit from 6-8 years of cellaring. If you don’t know about this winery, it’s time to get it in gear. Dr. Hugh and Kathy Shiels planted the DuBrul Vineyard a number of years ago and are now making wine under the Côte Bonneville label from their estate fruit. Review by Jay Miller.

Planted in 1992, the steep, rocky south-facing slopes of the DuBrul Vineyard has a variety of soils: ash from the Cascade volcanoes, rugged basalt promontory and frocks that were frozen in chunks of glacial ice. This marvelous wine will continue to improve.
